Laxmi Didi from a tribal-dominated village- Nandgaon, shows how the existing norms are being challenged with the increasing participation of women in politics. She started her governance journey as Sachet didi in 2017, as she started participating in training and meetings held by Samarthan. She understood the nuances of the Panchayati Raj system, which enabled her to gather the strength to raise issues concerning women in the Gram Sabha meetings. She was also motivated to contest the election of Ward Panch, which she won.
Post-election, she pledged to resolve the issue of opening schools up to class 12. She continues to play an active role in the village’s development and has also been encouraging all the Panch to do the same.
